The Optimal Length of a Pencil

As people who’ve worked with me in the print industry know, I love the common pencil. Having one tucked behind my ear at all times became something of a trademark. Maybe its the simplicity of the graphite wrapped in a wooden shell, topped with an eraser.

I’ve even given a lot of thought to certain aspects of the pencil. An example would be cutting an inch and a half off the pencil before it’s first sharpening. I find that the pencil starts out top heavy and I gain huge amounts of control simply by shortening it.

I wondered if I was the only one that had deep thoughts about this “forgotten apparatus”.

I was wrong.

Pencil Revolution is a site dedicated to all things pencil — Reviews, art work, and more are displayed there.

I’m a little less unique than I was five minutes ago.
