Oh really?!
Monday, July 23rd, 2007For the past week or so, I’ve tested Facebook. I’ve since canceled my account.
A number of things brought me to this decision.
To many bits. It was trying to offer so much that navigating and set-up were overly complex. The few friends that approved me all (every single one of you) used the base template. None of them changed it except to add a photo and personal details (and a movie review… yippee!)… and that’s not what I’m talking about here.
I blame this on too many options. There’s such a broad range of selections that deciding on any one of them becomes a chore.
Not enough reason. Maybe this is my anti-social nature coming out in spades, but I don’t like social networking sites for the same reasons I don’t like “texting by cellphone”.
If I wanted to carry on a conversation with someone, I would call them (you know… that whole “talking” thing?). For those that are too far away, I’d either email them, chat in IM, or set up a video conference through Skype.
More than that, no disrespect to friends I haven’t spoken with in forever, but it’s way more efficient to email you if I want to find out how you’re doing.
I’m also not going online to “get some”. And meeting up with old schoolmates… I wasn’t that popular in school, I don’t need to be reminded of how I was/am an outsider.
I’m sure Facebook can have a purpose (like putting together a family photo gallery), but in the here and now, I have no need for it.
And the reason for the title of this post…

I see… so, according to this, I didn’t find it useful because I don’t have enough friends?
Awesome! Thank you Facebook for validating my life.
