Oh really?!

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

For the past week or so, I’ve tested Facebook. I’ve since canceled my account.

A number of things brought me to this decision.

  1. To many bits. It was trying to offer so much that navigating and set-up were overly complex. The few friends that approved me all (every single one of you) used the base template. None of them changed it except to add a photo and personal details (and a movie review… yippee!)… and that’s not what I’m talking about here.

I blame this on too many options. There’s such a broad range of selections that deciding on any one of them becomes a chore.

  2. Not enough reason. Maybe this is my anti-social nature coming out in spades, but I don’t like social networking sites for the same reasons I don’t like “texting by cellphone”.

If I wanted to carry on a conversation with someone, I would call them (you know… that whole “talking” thing?). For those that are too far away, I’d either email them, chat in IM, or set up a video conference through Skype.

More than that, no disrespect to friends I haven’t spoken with in forever, but it’s way more efficient to email you if I want to find out how you’re doing.

I’m also not going online to “get some”. And meeting up with old schoolmates… I wasn’t that popular in school, I don’t need to be reminded of how I was/am an outsider.

I’m sure Facebook can have a purpose (like putting together a family photo gallery), but in the here and now, I have no need for it.

And the reason for the title of this post…

I see… so, according to this, I didn’t find it useful because I don’t have enough friends?

Awesome! Thank you Facebook for validating my life.

Langley Diving

Speaking of new things…

For those that haven’t heard, I’ve been working in a dive shop for a while now — working towards my divemaster and then on to instructor.

We’ve recently put up a new site. Nothing fancy too fancy while being easy to maintain.

Most of the big bugs have been worked out, so feel free to visit

Twitter Crack!

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

If you are on the site (as opposed to viewing this in an RSS reader), you’ll have already seen the new “thingy” near the top of the page.

This is my most recent to Twitter — a web-based app that promotes “single-line blogging”.

How did it ever get this far? If I’m not careful, one day I’ll have a Facebook account… or worse (stupid Second Life).

I’d hope for an intervention at that point, but all you people reading this are current card-holding members. You’d be more likely to welcome me with open arms and send me stupid digital teddy-bears.

Enjoy.

Conceptual

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

I’ve never truly thought of myself as overtly creative.

Most of what I do that falls in that category is usually based on rules. I follow those rules and come to a final product.

But every once in a while I do something that makes little sense… like shoot down the barrel of a cardboard tube.

Looking though a cardboard tube

I can’t explain why I took this image, other than because the items were right there. Both the camera and the tube were within arms reach.

A friend suggested that I see in a more conceptual way.

All I’m trying to do is change my perspective.

Maybe that’s what creativity is.
