Ad blocking is not theft!

Monday, August 20th, 2007

There is a site, called “Why Firefox is Blocked” (which I won’t link to directly—they don’t deserve the referer link), that would like you to believe that ad blocking is equal to theft.

Bullshit!

If I don’t want to see your ads for fear of having a seizure or just plain being annoyed, then I’ll find ways to avoid it.

It would be like getting up to take a piss or channel surfing during commercials on television.

So, I’ll change my User Agent string, which isn’t good for the internet. Personally, I’d prefer to accurately see who’s visiting my site (all five of you… thank you). Or I’ll vote with my feet.

And if I find I actually need a site that’s blocking browsers based on this, I’ll turn images, javascript, and plug-ins off completely. Then, you’ll be forced to use text-based ads… which I can easily ignore.
