Friendship is a tricky thing, isn’t it?

And yet, it isn’t… so long as both friends are the same sex.

For the most part, I can talk with my “guy” friends about anything. And I can also joke about just about anything.

But you don’t have that luxery in boy/girl friendships. At least, not when you are just starting out.

Everything is suspect. Everything is scrutinized. If you’re serious about keeping strictly to a friendship, you have to reign it in and keep it clean.

Sanitize what you say before it leaves your head.

I recently started chatting with someone I’d like to be a friend. She (as if the pronoun or the lead-in didn’t give it away) is female. And she’s really quite smart… and cute.

And others have noticed. Many others.

And they talk… and speculate. Because in our society, boy/girl friendships are not the norm.

So, for the record, this “thing” is a friendship, nothing more. If we continue to talk the way we do, I see it becoming a very important friendship that will hopefully last a very long time.

No good can come from insinuating that this is “sexual” in any way.

And I want you to stop.
