I used to wonder how those kids in Korea could walk into a cyber-cafe, play a video game for 36 hours and then drop dead due to lack food and water.
I used to wonder because last night I spent the better part of 8 hours writing some code that I only moderately understand.
Unlike them, I did occasionally get up to get a drink and use the washroom, but before I knew it, it was 5 AM.
And a few short hours later, here I am at work.

Apple has finally opened a store on the west coast of Canada.
Technically, it opens May 24, but the excitable little boy in me is still high-fiving the air.

I was walking home after work—as I’m often prone to doing—and I see this newer model Ford Mustang round the corner just as I get to it.
The driver was a nun!
Seriously! She had the outfit and everything.
Nice vow of poverty.
If a “bride of Christ” has better transportation than I do, I really need to up my standard of living.
At least, I had the good sense to buy a new pair of shoes recently.

I drive a big white box van for work.
Even though it isn’t “cool looking”, it gets the job done.
It would get the job done faster if people driving in front of me would at least go the speed limit.
For the longest time I wondered why. Now, I think it has to do with the general shape of the van.
People think I’m the police.
Either that or they like being tale-gated.
Bloody humans.

Today, I thought I’d put away my space heater.
I live in a basement suite and during the summer, it’s a comfortable cool temperature, but during the winter it can be dreadfully chilly even with the furnace going full out (remember… heat rises and most of the heat will blast into the upstairs suite).
So I have a space heater that I bought a couple years ago.
Except, when I went to unplug it and noticed melted plastic from the plug stuck around the outlet.
“Not good” you say?
I did the only logical thing I could think of.
I plugged it right back into that outlet and let it run!
Actually, I cut the cord and set it by the door so I could drop it in the trash in the morning. I checked the plug to make sure it wasn’t a fire hazard. I’ll avoid using it and replace it later.
Check your plugs people. It would be a bad deal to burn down your house because of this.

Thanks to the generosity of others (Thanks Amy!), I have a bike.
I haven’t rode a bike in quite a while and it’s good to be “back in the saddle again”.
I’ve noticed that my abs hurt though. You wouldn’t think they’d be the thing that hurts most after a good ride, but for me, that’s where the pain shows up. The pain only shows when I’m laying on my stomach… that’s a lot like say “My eye only hurts when I poke it”, but I do like to tap away at my computer while laying on the couch/floor/bed.
Guess I’m more out of shape than I thought.
The bike should fix that though.

I should be in bed.
Instead, I’ve only just finished watching as much of a television series as I can on my computer.
I get like that sometimes… where I forgo rational sense in favor of indulgence.
How productive will I be tomorrow?
Guess I’ll find out in a few hours.

Why is it so difficult to maintain healthy eating habits?
It’s not like good food is tasteless or anything. It’s more likely that the bad food alters my physiology in ways that are “pleasurable”.
Pain or pleasure. They are the only two real options. You either run from pain or to pleasure.
And I do likes me some junk food.
I’m not going back to my fiendish caffeine-induced soda binges though.
If you keep that in mind, I guess I am making progress. Like most people, I was just hoping for better defined progress and that really only happens during musical montages in the movies (Go listen to “Montage” from the movie “Team America”).
For now, I’ll keep on keeping on.

I recently installed OS X 10.5 “Leopard” and set about reinstalling all my various “haxies” and programs (I like clean installs).
When I connected to the internet, I immediately saw the shared computers in my sidebar.

I chuckled and nodded approvingly. The BSOD icon for PC computers is an appropriate “truth in jest” jibe at windows.
If you want to see the actual icon, drill down to “/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/ Contents/Resources/public.generic-pc.icns”

Its funny how life works sometimes.
I’ve tried so hard to keep my various email accounts away from spam. For the most part, I’ve been pretty successful.
Blog spam is a different story. I get more than one and not so much as more “mainstream” websites, but still too much.
Today, I approved a piece of comment spam. Only because is was a friend telling me that my site has gone a little stale. He managed to sneak in an ad for his upcoming comic.
So be it.
But to the rest of you spamming ass-pirates… I will delete you. You could send me a thousand pieces a day and you’ll still be filed appropriately.
So save yourself some bandwidth and go elsewhere.
