Across a sea of stars pt.1

It was dizzying1 to imagine the journey they made, sailing2 across the sea of stars to our sun. Thanks to probes3 sent to the out edges of our solar system, we saw them coming.

It was assumed that at the slower than light speeds they travelled, they must be in stasis4. The ship itself wasn’t very elegant, looking more like a tank5 missing its turret than a craft meant for space.

Debates raged on for months about what to do. Leaders6 gathered and discussed options.

Finally, instead of welcoming them, we constructed large cannons7, aimed to the moonlit, night sky8, and fired until we hit the mark9.
