Jake’s parents taught him how to measure just the right amount of food for his bird. They emphasized that feeding it too much would be very bad.
Jake loved that bird. Normally, he was precocious and mischievous, but with the bird, none of that happened.
He had an idea to build an entire little “gym” for the bird to play on, but mostly, the bird enjoyed fluttering around the house, avoiding having to go back into its cage.
His dad was an engineer and would often build little gadgets at home. One day, dad built an electro-magnet.
The bird was disoriented by the change in magnetic fields, and flew head-first into the fireplace mantle.
Jake and his dad spent the rest of the day digging a small grave out behind the sandbox in the back yard.
