The scientists had all left downtrodden and a little appalled3 at the lack of animals in this part of the jungle. Their heads spun4 as they tried to understand why the wildlife avoided them. Not even volunteering to help, they collected the few notes5 they had on a handful of small monkeys6 and left.
They had tried to lure animals to the camp with food7. The ranger, realizing how foolish and dangerous that was, had worked tirelessly to clean up and remove the food.
Alone with the gear packed into the truck, he stood watching as a heard of elephants8 walked through the now barren camp area, and smiled.
